Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Efren Bird (ranked 6747 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Mazepin (ranked 5051 p4p, 0 weight class). Fedor Mazepin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Efren Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Mazepin!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bird shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mazepin napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bird could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
You can see the frustration on Mazepin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mazepin is being controlled here.

Bird swings around for an armbar but Mazepin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bird's guard.
Mazepin wants to get up but he can't break Bird's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bird keeping moving, preventing Mazepin from controlling successfully.
Mazepin distracts Bird with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mazepin trying to control but Bird is working from the bottom.

Bird looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bird wants to sweep but no luck.
Bird keeping moving, preventing Mazepin from controlling successfully.
Bird throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mazepin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bird is keeping the position for now.
Bird knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mazepin on the ground.
Bird not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bird might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mazepin prevents Bird from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mazepin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Mazepin trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bird's guard.
Bird pulls Mazepin in close to his closed guard and prevents Mazepin from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mazepin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bird's head.
Mazepin stands and throws Bird's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mazepin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Mazepin tries for a kimura but Bird is defending well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mazepin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mazepin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bird wants to control but Mazepin postures up.
Bird manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mazepin's best efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bird missing with punches from the bottom.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mazepin lands a nice short elbow.


It looks like Efren Bird has been cut.

Mazepin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bird defends it well.
Mazepin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Bird makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bird.
Mazepin trying to control the position from guard on top but Bird is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bird controls Mazepin momentarily but Mazepin frees himself.
Mazepin works over Bird with some ground and pound from guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bird striking off his back but it's not causing Mazepin any problems.
Mazepin passes Bird's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mazepin stands up from half guard.

Mazepin drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mazepin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mazepin passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Bird is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Mazepin is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Bird is breathing heavily.
A nice elbow there by Mazepin.


Bird is rocked!
Mazepin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mazepin lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Bird! Mazepin sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Bird and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Fedor Mazepin!
