PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gosha Lopez (ranked 2564 p4p, 55 weight class) and Johnny Walker (ranked 3939 p4p, 100 weight class). Lopez comes into the arena with Sho Z-pod duba blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gosha Lopez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Walker! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lopez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Walker swats him away and circles back towards the center. Johnny Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Walker connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Walker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lopez. A quick step to the side and Lopez tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Lopez stuns Walker with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Walker swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Lopez counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Walker throws a leg kick and Lopez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Lopez jumps guard and drags Walker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Lopez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Walker defends well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lopez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Walker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Walker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Lopez has a closed guard, preventing Walker from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lopez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Lopez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Walker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Walker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Walker is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lopez has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Walker is looking to defend but Lopez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Walker! Lopez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Walker taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gosha Lopez! An out of breath Gosha Lopez thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
