PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Glass Joe (ranked 1056 p4p, 48 weight class) and Jaro Lalla (ranked 1624 p4p, 80 weight class). Joe kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is La Marseillaise. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Glass Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jaro Lalla!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe throws a shot to the body.
Lalla shoots in but no luck this time.
Joe is looking to counter punch.
Joe tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lalla was well out of range. Poor timing from Joe.
Lalla throws a fast counter high kick but Joe manages to duck under it in time.
Joe leaves Lalla with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Joe was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Joe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lalla manages to avoid it.
Joe stuffs the takedown attempt from Lalla. Lalla gets slowly back to his feet.
Glass Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaro Lalla.
Joe scores with a jab to the jaw.
Nice jab there from Joe.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lalla misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Joe just misses with a punch to the body.
Joe has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Lalla drops his hands momentarily and Joe takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Lalla fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Joe avoids it really well and circles away.

Joe looks to score with a jab to the body but Lalla is just out of range.
Lalla keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Joe cracks Lalla with an open hand slap.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lalla.
Lalla ducks under a wild hook from Joe.
Joe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Joe connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lalla's hands.
Joe throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Jaro Lalla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lalla shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joe as he jumps to the side.

Lalla shoots in looking for a takedown but Joe manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lalla's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lalla closes the distance and clinches up with Joe, looking for a takedown. Lalla pushes Joe against the cage but Joe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A combination from Joe does no damage.
Lalla tries for a takedown but Joe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Joe works Lalla's body with a nice hook.
Lalla shoots in but Joe avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Joe was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lalla slips a jab from Joe.
Lalla throws a big counter head kick but Joe avoids it with no problem.
Lalla takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Lalla fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Joe sprawls well initially but Lalla persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Lalla is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Joe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lalla.
Joe is trying to maintain the position but Lalla is very close to passing his half guard.

Lalla is working for a submission of some sort.
Joe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lalla is looking for a kimura but Joe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lalla to get the leverage.
Joe is looking to control Lalla's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Joe avoid being mounted?

Lalla is trying to work for a kimura but Joe is defending well.
Joe is doing well to control the position and prevent Lalla from advancing to side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Glass Joe dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Lalla tries to score a power double leg takedown but Joe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lalla somewhat.
Lalla shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Joe but Joe pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Glass Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaro Lalla.

Lalla ducks right into an uppercut from Joe.
Joe slaps away a takedown attempt from Lalla, before circling back to the center of the mat.

A lazy left from Joe finds it's target.


Lalla is rocked!

Joe lands a nice hook to Lalla's body. Lalla takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Joe stuffs the takedown.
Lalla looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joe is fending him off so far but Lalla persists. Nope, Joe circles away and we're back to standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lalla postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Joe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lalla, into his guard.

The cut man is working on Jaro Lalla's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Joe counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Horrible takedown attempt by Lalla or perhaps it was just good defense by Joe, which made it look bad.

Lalla is fighting to break Joe's control of his arms but Joe is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Joe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lalla gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jaro Lalla has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Joe has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Joe is looking for a triangle but Lalla pushes his legs off easily.

Joe trying to keep a closed guard but Lalla is proving a slippery customer.
Joe wants to control the position but Lalla says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Joe on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Joe tries to get out of the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Joe throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lalla sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lalla fails with the takedown.
Joe throws an overhand right that lands on Lalla's shoulder, as Lalla tries to avoid the shot.
Joe throws a big shot that misses.
Lalla blocks a jab.
Joe fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Lalla looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Glass Joe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Glass Joe is winning the standup battle so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A looping hook to the body misses from Joe. Lalla does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lalla shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Joe counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lalla ducks right into an uppercut from Joe.

And that's the end of the fight!
Glass Joe showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Joe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
