The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Machida.
Villegas swats away the attempt to clinch by Machida.
Machida throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Machida tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Machida gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Villegas.

It looks like Matheus Machida has been cut.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Machida.
Villegas drops Machida with a left and a right! Oh, Machida is hurt - Villegas dives into side control looking to finish!

Machida is rocked!
Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Villegas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Villegas stands up and beckons Machida to his feet.
Machida fails in his attempt to clinch.
Villegas avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Machida tries to close the distance and clinch but Villegas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Machida tries to clinch there but Villegas circles away.

Villegas drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Villegas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Villegas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Villegas advances to half guard.

Villegas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Villegas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Villegas is breathing heavily.

Villegas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machida sees it coming and defends easily.
Villegas stops Machida from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machida is in trouble now - Villegas has advanced to mount!

Villegas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Machida tries to reverse the position but Villegas maintains control.
Machida trying desperately to get to his feet.
Machida keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Villegas looking for a guillotine from mount but Machida is having none of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Machida has given up his back here. Will Villegas look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Machida looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Villegas is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Machida with him. Machida is trying to defend but Villegas has an arm under the chin now! Machida grimaces and is forced to tap out!
