Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Otis Camacho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kirk Calgrand! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Camacho on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Calgrand throws a head kick that misses. Calgrand moves into the clinch. Camacho is trying to pull guard but Calgrand has him pressed against the cage. Calgrand is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Camacho can't fight it off and eventually Calgrand manages to take the fight to the floor. Camacho looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Calgrand drops back looking for a leg! Camacho is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Camacho manages to kick Calgrand off! Calgrand jumps back into Camacho's guard. Calgrand has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Camacho is proving hard to escape from. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Calgrand gets to his feet. Camacho looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's one minute gone in the round. Camacho shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Calgrand defends it nicely. Camacho closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Calgrand's guard. Camacho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Calgrand works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Calgrand looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Calgrand manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Stalling in the clinch from Camacho.
Calgrand pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Calgrand feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Calgrand throws a big elbow that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Calgrand postures up in Camacho's guard and throws a big left but Camacho blocks it. Calgrand sitting in guard here, content to control. It looks like Calgrand might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Camacho utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Calgrand controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Calgrand tries to free his leg and advance position but Camacho is retaining full guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Otis Camacho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Calgrand rushes Camacho and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Calgrand manages to break the clinch.
Camacho tries to close the distance and clinch up but Calgrand swats him away and circles back towards the center. Calgrand fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Camacho, pushing him back against the cage. Camacho jumps guard but Calgrand turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Otis Camacho. That's going to take a lot out of him. Calgrand has Camacho pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Calgrand pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Camacho tumbling to the mat - Calgrand dives into Camacho's guard. Camacho uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Camacho is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Camacho tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Calgrand defends well and Camacho ends up having to push Calgrand into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Calgrand lands with a right that hurts Camacho. Camacho looks to clinch but Calgrand throws a short knee that drops Camacho. This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch and Knee). Kirk Calgrand! Our winner, Kirk Calgrand, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
