Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jared Savea!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Savea taking punishment in the form of punches.

Watson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Watson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Savea is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Savea is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Watson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
We've been hearing good reports from Watson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Savea is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Savea really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Watson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Savea tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Savea felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savea dodges the ground and pound from Watson.
Watson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.


It looks like Jared Savea has been cut.
Watson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savea is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Watson throws an elbow but Savea slips to the side and avoids it well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Savea can do anything to dispel that myth.
A big shot lands for Watson! That's hurt Savea! Will he recover? Watson fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Watson!
