Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brian Marais (ranked 5412 p4p, 412 weight class) and Danish Ali (ranked 24095 p4p, 478 weight class). Marais comes to the cage accompanied by The Offspring - Come Out And Play. Danish Ali has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Brian Marais's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Marais! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danish Ali! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ali shoots in and gets a takedown into Marais's guard. Marais is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Marais controlling the position. Marais trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Marais is looking to stand up but Ali isn't so interested in that idea. Marais pulls Ali in close to prevent any damage. Marais wants to sweep here but Ali controlling him for the moment. Ali being controlled here momentarily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marais is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Marais throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marais not doing much here.
Ali keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Marais thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Marais has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ali tries to kick Marais off but Marais keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Marais has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Marais trying to pass the guard but Ali defending well. Marais perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Marais has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Ali really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marais. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Marais wants to pass to mount but Ali is defending the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Marais with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Marais working over Ali with some ground and pound. Ali looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Marais drops an elbow to the side of Ali's head. Marais seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Marais wants to work for an arm triangle but Ali is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ali has a hand on Marais's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marais takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Marais takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Marais looking to control but Ali is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Marais looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marais prevents Ali from getting the reversal. Marais tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Marais tries to control but Ali wriggling away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Marais looking to control and managing it successfully. Ali is working to get back to half guard.

Brian Marais dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Marais manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ali on his heels. He'll look to pass Ali's guard now, I'm sure. Marais forces his way into half guard. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Marais here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round. Marais is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ali! Ali taking shots to the head. Marais putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marais sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Ali is squirming around, avoiding Marais's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ali is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Marais locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Ali is forced to tap!
