PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruce White Jr (ranked 1194 p4p, 139 weight class) and Thip Top (ranked 2327 p4p, 237 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bruce White Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Thip Top!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Top tries a head kick but it misses.

White Jr moves into the clinch successfully.
Top blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
White Jr misses with a hook to the ribs.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Top just misses with a elbow thrown towards White Jr's brow.
I was talking to White Jr's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Top pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Top throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Top lands an elbow inside.
Top lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
White Jr tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
White Jr takes an elbow to the temple.
A body shot lands from White Jr.
Top tries to circle away but White Jr has him pinned against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Top breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Top lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Good leg kick by Top there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and White Jr counters with a shoot takedown. Top fights it but they end up in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Top can do anything to dispel that myth.
White Jr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Top looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

White Jr pushes down on Top's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are battling for position here. Top manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

White Jr is looking to work some ground and pound but Top has wrist control.
Top keeping moving, preventing White Jr from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as White Jr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

White Jr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

White Jr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

An elbow from White Jr crashes against the mat.
White Jr lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

White Jr swings around for an armbar but Top sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into White Jr's guard.
Top stays in close to White Jr's body and controls the position.

Top got a little sloppy there for a moment and White Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Top has managed to get both his arms back between White Jr's legs - danger averted.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bruce White Jr will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

White Jr tries to counter by clinching up but Top breaks away and moves out of range.
White Jr avoids a kick to the body.

Crunch! Top slams his shin into White Jr's torso.
Top stuffs the takedown attempt from White Jr. White Jr gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Top throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
White Jr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

White Jr on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Top. Top obviously looking to wear him down.
White Jr looks for a takedown but Top sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce White Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and White Jr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Top's guard.
White Jr keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Top's head.

Top had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. White Jr defends it easily.
Top bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in White Jr's guard.

White Jr is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
White Jr wants to sweep here but Top controlling him for the moment.

White Jr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Top defends well.
White Jr seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Top has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of White Jr is proving hard to escape from.

White Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Top gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
White Jr wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

White Jr is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Top has his hands clasped together but White Jr extends and breaks Top's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by White Jr.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bruce White Jr!
An out of breath Bruce White Jr thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
