Coming up we have a welterweight kickboxing rules bout between Cory McDonnell (ranked 18176 p4p, 583 weight class) and Ron Velderman (ranked 20353 p4p, 578 weight class). McDonnell comes into the arena with Jorge Quintero - 300 Violin Orchestra blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cory McDonnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ron Velderman! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonnell attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. McDonnell throws a leg kick that misses. An inside leg kick lands from Velderman. Velderman has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as McDonnell is landing a low percentage of strikes. McDonnell looks to land a left hand but Velderman moved out of range nicely. Velderman shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. McDonnell eats them both and turns towards Velderman to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Velderman with a body punch. A glancing blow. Velderman misses the shot to the body. Ron Velderman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Velderman keeps the fight on the outside. Velderman motions for McDonnell to come forward. Velderman throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. McDonnell looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. McDonnell dodges the punch combination from Velderman.

Velderman scores with a jab. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Velderman. McDonnell scores with a hook to the body. Velderman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Velderman connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. McDonnell throws a leg kick but Velderman sees it coming and checks it nicely. Velderman misses with a telegraphed body shot
letting McDonnell counter with a right hand. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! McDonnell crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Velderman - the referee stops the clock and McDonnell gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Velderman. McDonnell manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDonnell throws a leg kick but Velderman moved away. Velderman swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Velderman misses the jab. A punch lands to the side of McDonnell 's head but he takes it in his stride. McDonnell checks the leg kick. McDonnell swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Velderman scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. A jab from Velderman finds it's way through McDonnell's defenses. Velderman connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed McDonnell momentarily.
A swing and a miss from McDonnell. Velderman throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Velderman dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A decent looking body kick lands there for Velderman. Velderman throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McDonnell stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Velderman thuds a left hand into McDonnell's body. This has been an exciting period of action! Velderman connects with an inside leg kick. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Velderman checks a leg kick. Velderman lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. McDonnell lands a nice looking body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round. McDonnell lands a lovely overhand right. A kick lands to the mid section there for Velderman. McDonnell takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Velderman swings away with a body shot that misses
and McDonnell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Velderman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Velderman slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Both fighters circling a little - McDonnell finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Velderman is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! McDonnell had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Velderman missing with a left hand there. McDonnell was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Some bone on bone action there as McDonnell checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. McDonnell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Velderman was well out of range. Poor timing from McDonnell. Velderman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Velderman moves out of range as McDonnell strikes. McDonnell misses with a leg kick and Velderman counters with a stiff right hand. Velderman fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but McDonnell is out of range. Velderman has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. McDonnell swings for the body but Velderman moves out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Velderman looks to score with a jab to the body but McDonnell is just out of range. Velderman cracks McDonnell with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes. McDonnell throws a leg kick which misses Velderman's front leg but catches the back leg as Velderman tries to avoid it. Velderman avoids the body shot from McDonnell.

McDonnell ducks under a wild hook from Velderman. Velderman comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. McDonnell takes a shot right to the bread basket. Velderman checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Velderman lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and McDonnell has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from McDonnell and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. A lazy left from Velderman finds it's target. Velderman bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. A jab from McDonnell misses. The fighters circling - McDonnell throws out the jab but it was never going to land. McDonnell throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. McDonnell stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Velderman. McDonnell takes one to the side of the head.
McDonnell uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Velderman. Velderman connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. McDonnell keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Velderman looks to land a body kick but McDonnell moved away.

A close second round but Ron Velderman will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

McDonnell scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Velderman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. A leg kick checked by Velderman.
And that's the end of the fight! Ron Velderman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Velderman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Ron Velderman! Ron Velderman spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
