Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Anderson (ranked 24834 p4p, 447 weight class) and Sirus Hughes (ranked 24393 p4p, 454 weight class). Anderson comes to the cage accompanied by So Tem Jogador. Hughes has chosen Devil "Shinedown" as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sammy Anderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sirus Hughes! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson dodges the punch combination from Hughes.
Sirus Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hughes with a body punch. A glancing blow. Hughes gets in close and instigates a clinch. Hughes is leaning against Anderson and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Anderson lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hughes wants to stand up but Anderson is controlling him. Anderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anderson lands a couple of elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Anderson looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hughes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes wants to control from the top but Anderson keeps moving. Anderson working a defensive guard here.
Hughes wanted to stand there but Anderson had control of the position. Anderson keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully. Anderson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hughes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hughes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Anderson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hughes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Anderson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Anderson is breathing heavily. Anderson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hughes tries to stand but Anderson is controlling from the bottom. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes wants to control from the top but Anderson keeps moving.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Hughes fails in his attempt to clinch. Anderson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hughes sprawls and moves away. Hughes cracks a nice hook into Anderson's ribs. Hughes has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Hughes scores with a crisp jab that stopped Anderson in his tracks. Hughes misses with an attempted mid kick.
Anderson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Hughes clinches up with Anderson and pushes him back against the cage. Hughes slowing the pace effectively. Anderson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Hughes has his feet on Anderson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hughes tries to clinch up and Anderson counters with a takedown into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes is trying to buck Anderson off. Hughes is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Hughes is trying to stand.
Anderson is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hughes still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hughes has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Hughes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Anderson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hughes yanks on the arm and Anderson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hughes.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sirus Hughes! In defeat, Sammy Anderson stepped up to the mic, saying 'All respect goes to my opponent, they're a hell of a competitor. It wasn't the result my team had desired, however, there is always some positives and some things we can learn from.'.
