Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Hughes (ranked 5556 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tatak Marines (ranked 5100 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mauricio Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tatak Marines!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Roberts and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marines manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Marines scores with a takedown into Hughes's guard.
Hughes trying to keep a closed guard but Marines is proving a slippery customer.
Hughes is striking but Marines is not phased and passes to half guard.
Hughes manages to get to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Marines really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hughes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hughes thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Hughes trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Marines seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hughes tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Marines gets to his feet - Hughes follows without any prompting.

Hughes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marines sprawls well initially but Hughes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hughes drops an elbow to the side of Marines's head.
Marines wants to improve his position but Hughes is controlling well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hughes lands a nice short elbow.
Hughes is looking to stall here but Marines recovers full guard.

Hughes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Marines not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hughes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hughes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Marines preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Marines wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Hughes stands and steps away. Marines gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hughes is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Hughes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hughes is looking to regain half guard here but Marines keeps moving and retains side control.
Hughes wants to control but Marines postures up.

Hughes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hughes is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Marines off and has taken his back!
Hughes struggling to land strikes to the head as Marines covers up.
Hughes lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Marines hold on?!

Hughes has his opponent's back but Marines is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Hughes.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Marines looks winded!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hughes shoots in but no luck this time.
Marines appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Marines looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tatak Marines will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hughes misses with a straight right.
Marines now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Hughes lunges at Marines with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Marines's hand.
Marines leaves Hughes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes shoots in for a takedown but Marines shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Marines gets caught napping as Hughes dives in and scores a takedown. Marines manages to retain guard.

Marines has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hughes has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Marines misses with a punch to the body.
Nice elbow from Hughes.
Hughes tries to break free but Marines pushes him back against the cage.
Hughes looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Marines keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hughes's efforts to push away.
Hughes is trying to break the clinch but Marines has him pressed against the cage.

Hughes is trying to trip Marines. He has hold of a leg but Marines is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hughes persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hughes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tatak Marines has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hughes wants to control from the top but Marines keeps moving.
Hughes won't allow Marines to get back to his feet.
Hughes throws a strike but Marines rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hughes pulls Marines in close to his closed guard and prevents Marines from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Marines is looking to stand up but Hughes won't let him.

Hughes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Marines is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hughes.
Hughes is being controlled here.

Hughes is looking for a sweep.

Marines has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hughes dives in and grabs Marines's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marines pushes down on Hughes's head and hops out.
Marines follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marines drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hughes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Marines keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Marines is doing well to control the position and prevent Hughes from advancing to side control.
Hughes throws a strike but Marines avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Hughes throws a big right hand that misses.

Marines wriggles free and stands up.
Hughes misses with a combination
and Marines counters with a left and a right that stings Hughes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Marines shoots in and gets a takedown into Hughes's guard.
Marines trying to control the position from guard on top but Hughes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hughes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Marines is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tatak Marines showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Hughes gets caught flat footed, as Marines shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Marines wants to pass the guard but Hughes is keeping the position.

Hughes is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Marines has his hands clasped together but Hughes extends and breaks Marines's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hughes.
