PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Scott (ranked 6927 p4p, 459 weight class) and Trenton Leon (ranked 24696 p4p, 496 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tyler Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trenton Leon!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott throws a hook to the side of Leon's head but Leon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Scott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Scott is looking to chop away at Leon's legs.
Leon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Scott manages to avoid it.
Scott dodges the punch combination from Leon.
Scott misses with a straight left.
Leon keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Scott.
Scott is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Leon.
Scott throws a sloppy head kick and Leon moves out of range easily.
Leon is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Scott throws a right and a left that Leon avoids nicely.
Scott has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Touch Of Death Combat Academy in the buildup to the fight.
Leon should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Leon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Leon lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Scott shoots for a double leg takedown but Leon sprawls well. He's pushed Scott's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Scott avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Scott will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Leon is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Scott with a body shot.

Leon tries to counter with a clinch but Scott shakes him off and moves away.

The fighters circling - Scott throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Leon misses with a wild combination.
Scott works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Leon takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Scott misses with a low kick.

Scott throws a head kick that misses.
Leon lands a nice looking body kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Leon moves out of range of the body kick from Scott.
Tyler Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott keeps the fight on the outside.
Leon goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Scott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Leon wants to stand but Scott is controlling the position.

Scott throws a strike but Leon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Leon wants to get up but he can't break Scott's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Scott holds on and takes a little breather.
Scott on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Scott tries to get out of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Leon is looking to stand up but Scott won't let him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Leon is looking to clinch.

Scott clinches up against the cage.
Scott has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Leon after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyler Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Leon is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Scott is keeping busy.
Scott tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Leon's coach down at The Forge was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Leon's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Leon tries to throw a body punch but Scott avoids it by throwing Leon back against the cage.

Scott changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Leon fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Leon feints a jab promting Scott to slip. Leon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Scott slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Tyler Scott has been cut.
Scott takes one on the chin but seems OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Trenton Leon will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Scott seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Tyler Scott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Scott is working for a kimura but Leon is defending it quite comfortably.

Scott misses with a jab, cross combination.

Scott lands a nice looking body shot.

Leon takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Scott holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Leon has a couple of punches blocked by Scott.
Leon stops a takedown attempt from Scott.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Scott.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Scott here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Scott is looking to take this one to the mat.
Leon blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Scott is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Scott creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Leon throws a punch but it's blocked by Scott.

Scott closes the distance and clinches up with Leon, looking for a takedown. Scott pushes Leon against the cage but Leon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Scott counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Scott.

Scott has clasped his hands together around Leon's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Leon throws Scott to one side and escapes!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Scott closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Scott shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Leon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Scott seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Leon for as long as he can get away with.
Scott won't allow Leon to get back to his feet.
Scott slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Scott has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Scott.
Scott postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Leon slips a jab and a cross from Scott.
Leon throws a counter combo.

Scott shoots in and bounces Leon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Scott is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Scott in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Scott is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Scott throws a big right hand that misses.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Leon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Scott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Leon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Scott, into his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Leon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Scott pulls Leon in close to prevent any damage.
Leon wants to get up but he can't break Scott's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Scott is pulling down on Leon's head to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Trenton Leon.
I think Leon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
