Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Menger (ranked 1037 p4p, 131 weight class) and Stipe Velasquez (ranked 1349 p4p, 160 weight class). Menger kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Shiny. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stipe Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Menger shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Menger makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Menger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Velasquez working for a triangle but Menger defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Menger landing some decent shots from guard. Menger working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Velasquez's head. Menger with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Velasquez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Velasquez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Menger manages to get himself to full guard.
Menger seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Menger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Menger holds on and takes a little breather. I've been told that Velasquez has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game. Velasquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Menger is keeping the position for now. Velasquez is sitting in close to Menger's body. Menger has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Velasquez is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Velasquez is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Menger.
