The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Dijk getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Petrone looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Van Dijk is fending him off so far but Petrone persists. Nope, Van Dijk circles away and we're back to standing.
Petrone moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromVan Dijk.
A looping hook to the body misses from Van Dijk. Petrone does a little dance to reset his feet.
Van Dijk stuffs the takedown attempt from Petrone. Petrone gets slowly back to his feet.
Van Dijk feints a counter leg kick.
Petrone tries to score a power double leg takedown but Van Dijk sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Petrone somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nicholas Petrone. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Van Dijk jabs at Petrone's body.
Petrone has been working on his balance at ELITE Island Gym - 19 Elite Coaches, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Van Dijk.
Petrone takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Petrone avoids the head kick by Van Dijk.
That kick from Van Dijk tenderised Petrone's leg. Petrone is trying to keep his angry face on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van Dijk misses the shot to the body.
Petrone dives in and scores a takedown into Van Dijk's guard.
