Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Prince Atkinson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeronimo Seagal! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Seagal scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Seagal lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Seagal. Seagal bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Atkinson's head. Atkinson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Atkinson slips a nice elbow through Seagal's hands, connecting with Seagal's forehead. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Atkinson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Seagal is looking to get back to is feet but Atkinson passes into side control.
Atkinson in side control lands a decent elbow. Atkinson decides to stand back up. Atkinson steps back and let's Seagal get back to his feet. Jeronimo Seagal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Seagal throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
so Atkinson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Atkinson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Atkinson gets to his feet - Seagal follows without any prompting. Seagal looks to land a left hand but Atkinson moved out of range nicely. Atkinson attempts a counter takedown but Seagal avoids it well and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Seagal tries to close the distance and clinch but Atkinson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Seagal feints a jab promting Atkinson to slip. Seagal then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Atkinson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Seagal misses with a few strikes there.
Seagal looks winded! Atkinson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Seagal tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Atkinson is in Seagal's guard. Atkinson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Seagal, up you get! Seagal steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Atkinson. Atkinson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Atkinson slips under a jab. Seagal throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Atkinson sees it coming and avoids it easily. Atkinson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Atkinson showed some decent athleticism there. This has been an exciting period of action! Atkinson drops an elbow to the side of Seagal's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Atkinson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Atkinson working the head and body with strikes. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Atkinson lands a nice short elbow. Atkinson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Atkinson lands with a punch from half guard. Seagal is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Atkinson is nestled in close to Seagal, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Seagal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atkinson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Atkinson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Atkinson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Atkinson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Seagal is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Atkinson winds up and cracks Seagal with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Seagal is still in real trouble! Can Atkinson finish him? Atkinson decides to stand up. Atkinson moves into the clinch. Seagal pushes off an throws an elbow but Atkinson leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Seagal seems to have recovered his senses. Seagal is fighting off a takedown attempt but Atkinson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Seagal to the mat. Seagal regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Atkinson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Atkinson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Seagal sprawls well initially but Atkinson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Atkinson lands strikes from half guard. Atkinson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Atkinson winds up and cracks Seagal with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Atkinson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Atkinson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Atkinson working over Seagal with some ground and pound. Seagal looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Atkinson drops an elbow to the side of Seagal's head. Atkinson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Atkinson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Atkinson working Seagal over with strikes. Atkinson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Seagal with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Atkinson winds up and cracks Seagal with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Atkinson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Prince Atkinson dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Atkinson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Atkinson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Atkinson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Atkinson manages to end up in side control. Atkinson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Atkinson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Seagal some visible discomfort.
Seagal is trying to get back to his feet. Atkinson lands a strong strike to the head of Seagal. That's dazed him! Atkinson looking to finish here. Seagal is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Atkinson lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Prince Atkinson!
