Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Conor King! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yip Man! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King defending well as Man loads up on a big left hand. King tries to clinch but Man moves away letting Man counter with a right hand. Yip Man seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Man misses with a hook. Man gets tackled into the cage by King. King maintains the clinch. Man breaks from the clinch.
A decent looking cross lands there for King. Man is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by King. King moves out of range as Man strikes. King drops down looking for a counter takedown but Man sprawls and moves away. Man lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Man avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Man lands a right hook to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Man does a little dance to reset his feet. Man looks like he wants to counter punch here. King uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Man. The fight stays on the outside here - King looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's one minute gone in the round. King lands with a nice body punch. Man looks to land a left hand but King moved out of range nicely. King moves away from the strike by Man. Man misses with a hook. Man looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Man with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling King to score with a decent uppercut. A big right from Man misses. Yip Man is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Man throws a right hand that misses
and King counters with a nice body shot. We've been told by King's head coaches at Doherty's Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Man misses with a right hand and King cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. King drops Man with a beautiful combination! Man stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - King is looking for the KO!
Man is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Man throws a sloppy body shot
and King makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Man is still on wobbly legs! Can King finish him? Man misses with a left hand and King counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Man has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Conor King! Yip Man was interviewed post fight and said 'I am honored to have fought and learned from you. '.
