PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between hillbilly george (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Sillinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). george is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. hillbilly george has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, hillbilly george!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Sillinger!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sillinger looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
george looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Sillinger stalling.

Sillinger seems to be working for a kimura but george defends the submission attempt.
Sillinger controlling the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Despite being in the dominant position, Michael Sillinger just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sillinger tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sillinger shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts george as he jumps to the side.
Horrible takedown by Sillinger or perhaps it was just good defense by george which made him look bad.
george stuffs the takedown attempt from Sillinger. Sillinger gets slowly back to his feet.
hillbilly george has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Sillinger.

george closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - george lands in his opponent's guard.
george is standing up over Sillinger. Sillinger looks to escape but george dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
george tries to score with some ground and pound. Sillinger controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

george tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Sillinger struggling a bit here.
Sillinger holding on.
george misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
george throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

george tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no george has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sillinger misses with a takedown

and george holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
george tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sillinger just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sillinger makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sillinger avoiding damage.
george is trying to break the clinch but Sillinger has him pressed against the cage.

Sillinger breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
george tries to clinch

and Sillinger counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Sillinger dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sillinger cracks george with a good jab.

Sillinger clinches up with george and pushes him back against the cage.

Sillinger pulls guard effortlessly.
Sillinger wants to get back to his feet but george is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Sillinger has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes george off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and george counters with a shoot takedown. Sillinger fights it but they end up in guard.
Sillinger controls george momentarily but george frees himself.
Sillinger keeping moving, preventing george from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

george forces his way into half guard.
george thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Sillinger is holding on to half guard well.
Sillinger wants to control but george is keeping busy and won't allow it.
george will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sillinger misses with some strikes from the bottom.
george looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
george throwing shots but Sillinger is blocking nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
george stops Sillinger from getting back to his feet.
george is taking a breather. Sillinger says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
george avoids the head kick by Sillinger.

george closes the distance and clinches.

Sillinger breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
george fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
george shoots in looking for a takedown. Sillinger tries to sprawl out of it but george keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sillinger manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A head kick misses from george.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sillinger throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
hillbilly george seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sillinger darts in and clinches george up against the cage.
george is stalling here.
george is trying to drag Sillinger to the mat but Sillinger just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for hillbilly george. That's going to take a lot out of him.
george has had enough of the clinch but Sillinger keeps him there for the moment.
george wants a takedown but no success here.

Sillinger lands an elbow that stopped george in his tracks for a moment.

Sillinger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sillinger throws a combination that misses

and george counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sillinger won't be happy with that.
Sillinger is not content to let george control the position.
george taking a break here but Sillinger is having none of it and regains half guard.
Sillinger is trying to stand.
george throwing shots but Sillinger is blocking nicely.
Sillinger is not content to let george control the position.
george wants to stand but Sillinger has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sillinger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sillinger lands a jab to the nose.

Sillinger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
george struggling a bit here.
Sillinger taking a breather here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
george is trying to control Sillinger's posture but Sillinger avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
george is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
george seems a little lost for a moment, as Sillinger dominates the positioning.
george is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Sillinger off and has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sillinger trying to control the hands but george breaks the grip.
george punches the canvas rather than the man.
Sillinger trying to control the hands but george won't let him.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - george's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

george has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Sillinger has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Sillinger manages to reverse the position and now he's in george's guard. Nice work there by Sillinger.

george bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sillinger's guard.
Sillinger has a closed guard, preventing george from standing up.
Sillinger wants to stand and escape but george is having none of it.

Sillinger is looking for a triangle but george pushes his legs off easily.
george won't allow Sillinger to get back to his feet.
george postures up.
george wants to pass the guard but Sillinger is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
george postures up.
Sillinger working a defensive guard but george manages to pass into side control anyway.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
george throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sillinger fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sillinger has a takedown stuffed.

And that's the end of the fight!
Michael Sillinger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sillinger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
