PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darrel Petersen (ranked 876 p4p, 126 weight class) and Slade Wilson (ranked 896 p4p, 129 weight class). Wilson has chosen Hypnotize - The Notorious B.I.G. as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darrel Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 25 - 3, fighting out of London, Slade Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Petersen misses.
Wilson shapes to counter with a head kick.
Wilson shoots in looking for a takedown. Petersen tries to sprawl out of it but Wilson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Petersen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd cheers as Petersen lands an impressive looking overhand right. Wilson doesn't seem phased though.
Wilson takes a body punch but keeps moving.

and Petersen makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wilson has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Petersen seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Wilson can turn it around.

Petersen tightens his grip and picks Wilson up, before dumping him to the ground. Wilson manages to land in guard.

Petersen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wilson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Petersen has managed to get both his arms back between Wilson's legs - danger averted.
We've been hearing good reports from Petersen's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
