PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alonzo Trotter (ranked 1578 p4p, 208 weight class) and Esa Kettu (ranked 1765 p4p, 235 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alonzo Trotter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Esa Kettu!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trotter throws a jab but it's blocked by Kettu.

Trotter shoots in and gets a takedown into Kettu's guard.
Kettu keeping moving, preventing Trotter from controlling successfully.
Kettu pulls Trotter in close to prevent any damage.
Kettu wants to stand but Trotter is controlling the position.
Trotter wants to control from the top but Kettu keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kettu wants to stand up but Trotter is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trotter is fighting to break Kettu's control of his arms but Kettu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Trotter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kettu is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kettu has escaped and now he's on top!


Trotter is looking for a triangle but Kettu pushes his legs off easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kettu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Trotter is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Trotter shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Kettu throws a big shot that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trotter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A little jabbing left from Kettu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kettu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Trotter.
Trotter throws a series of punches but Kettu moves out of range.
Kettu misses with a head kick.
Nice uppercut there from Trotter.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kettu.
Jab from Kettu.
Kettu throws a right and a left that both miss.
Trotter was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Trotter tries to clinch there but Kettu circles away.
Esa Kettu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kettu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Trotter keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kettu.

Esa Kettu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trotter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kettu looks like he wants to counter punch here.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Kettu. Trotter shrugs it off though.
Kettu throws a series of punches but Trotter avoids them all with ease.
A cross from Trotter lands.
Kettu fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Kettu throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Kettu misses with a looping left.
Trotter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Trotter takes one to the side of the head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Trotter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Trotter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kettu defends it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Esa Kettu dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kettu connects with a right hand. Trotter shakes it off.
Trotter moves away from the strike by Kettu.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kettu.
Kettu looks to land a left hand but Trotter moved out of range nicely.
Trotter attempts a counter takedown but Kettu avoids it well and moves away.
Kettu staying out of range there.
Kettu misses with a hook. Trotter ducked under it nicely.
Trotter feinted with a counter takedown.
Trotter misses with a series of wild punches.
Kettu takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Trotter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kettu was well out of range. Poor timing from Trotter.
Kettu missing with a left hand there. Trotter was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Trotter bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kettu misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Trotter.

Kettu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Trotter.
Kettu scores with the left hand. Trotter knows he should have avoided that one.
Kettu throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Trotter waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kettu.
Kettu throws a big counter head kick but Trotter avoids it with no problem.
Trotter uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kettu.
Trotter lands a body shot.
Trotter drops his hands momentarily and Kettu takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kettu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kettu fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Trotter looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kettu takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kettu tries a low kick but Trotter avoids it.
Trotter half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Kettu misses with a hook.
Trotter misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Kettu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Trotter ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kettu stuffs the takedown.
Kettu lands with an overhand left.
Trotter takes one on the chin but seems OK.


Trotter is rocked!
Kettu is stalking Trotter. Trotter circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Kettu, and it's lights out! Trotter really payed the price for that rookie mistake.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Esa Kettu!
