Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Bobbie Carroll! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alpha Suneg! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carroll slaps away a takedown attempt from Suneg, before circling back to the center of the mat. Carroll wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Suneg drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carroll is looking for a sweep. Suneg tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Suneg has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carroll tries to get back to half guard but can't. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Suneg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carroll keeps working. Carroll manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suneg wants to stand up but Carroll has a hold of him and won't allow it. Carroll is trying to get back to full guard. Carroll is working hard here to advance position. Carroll wants to get back to his feet. Carroll wants to stand back up but Suneg manages to pass into side control.
Suneg connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Carroll some visible discomfort.
Carroll sneaks out the side door and pushes Suneg away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Suneg looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Carroll! Carroll throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Suneg throws a low kick but Carroll moves out of range easily. Carroll throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Suneg was covering up waiting for the punch and Carroll finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Suneg looking for a guillotine here but Carroll defends easily.
Suneg looks winded! Carroll throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Suneg has his foot on Carroll's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carroll works his way back into a safe position though. Carroll is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Carroll lands a couple of elbows. Suneg looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carroll keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Suneg's head. Carroll is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Excellent takedown into side control there by Carroll. Carroll staying calm. Carroll wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Suneg, who protects the arm well. Suneg being controlled for a moment. Carroll has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bobbie Carroll dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Suneg looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Suneg fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carroll, pushing him back against the cage. Carroll works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Suneg looking to control but Carroll passes into half guard.
Carroll is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Suneg can do to turn this around? Carroll is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carroll is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Suneg sees it coming and defends easily. Suneg avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carroll. Carroll controlling the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Suneg is looking to improve his position.
Still in half guard, Carroll seems content to control. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. The fighters are battling for position here. Suneg manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Suneg is breathing heavily. Carroll postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Suneg looking to control.
Suneg can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carroll controls the pace.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Suneg will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Carroll is looking to counter the offense by Suneg and move into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carroll scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Carroll is working to tighten his grip on Suneg's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Suneg has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Carroll is really squeezing tight and eventually Suneg passes out! Carroll breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
