PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Okino Naruhiko (ranked 1240 p4p, 54 weight class) and Thom Tharrier (ranked 23832 p4p, 259 weight class). Thom Tharrier told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Okino Naruhiko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thom Tharrier!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Naruhiko takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Tharrier lands a big uppercut and Naruhiko crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Naruhiko looks OK. Tharrier waves Naruhiko back to his feet!


It looks like Okino Naruhiko has been cut.
A low kick from Tharrier misses

and Naruhiko counters with a single leg into guard. Tharrier didn't expect that.
Tharrier wants to get back to his feet but Naruhiko passes into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Naruhiko working over Tharrier with some ground and pound. Tharrier looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Tharrier tries to kick Naruhiko off in order to stand up. Naruhiko Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Naruhiko has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Tharrier takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Tharrier pushes Naruhiko away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Naruhiko gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Tharrier takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Tharrier is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Naruhiko asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Tharrier is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Tharrier tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tharrier covers up after that shot from Naruhiko.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tharrier is trying to get back to his feet but Naruhiko has full control of the position and if anything, Tharrier has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Tharrier is trapped and Naruhiko is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Tharrier is trying to get back to his feet but Naruhiko has full control of the position and if anything, Tharrier has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Naruhiko lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Tharrier hold on?!
Naruhiko is punishing Tharrier with strikes - can he finish him?!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Naruhiko connects with a big shot to the side of Tharrier's head.
Tharrier is taking damage to the body and head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Naruhiko lands a series of strikes from the back and Tharrier goes limp! The ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Okino Naruhiko!
A very excited looking Okino Naruhiko made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
