Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel Winchester! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Winchester sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Winchester defends it well. Winchester is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard. Smith prevents Winchester from improving his position. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Winchester is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Winchester defends the submission attempt. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Winchester has eaten all the pies! Smith decides to stand and escape the position. Winchester gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith wants to pass the guard but Winchester is keeping the position. Winchester looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Winchester manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Winchester in his guard. Winchester advances to half guard. Winchester prevents Smith from improving his position. Smith on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Smith tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is working hard here to advance position. Smith gets back to full guard.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Smith has his foot on Winchester's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Winchester works his way back into a safe position though. Smith wants to sweep but no luck. Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Smith is breathing heavily. Winchester trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy. Smith looking for a guillotine here but Winchester defends easily.
Winchester wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Winchester is one step ahead there. Smith throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Winchester avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Winchester wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Smith looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Winchester has picked Smith up and slammed him! Smith can't keep hold of the triangle and Winchester manages to pass to side control! Smith stops Winchester from passing to mount. Smith wants to get back to his feet but Winchester drags him back down. Smith tries to buck Winchester off but Winchester is having none of it. Winchester wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy. Smith is looking to reverse the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith fails with a takedown attempt. Smith checks a low kick from Winchester. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Smith dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Winchester blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smith. Smith stands up from half guard. Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Smith is working for a guillotine from mount but Winchester frees his head quite easily.
Smith looking to control but Winchester is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winchester stops Smith from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Winchester tries to reverse the position but Smith maintains control. Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Winchester is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Winchester and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Winchester gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Winchester sees it coming and defends easily. Smith tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Smith seems to be looking for submissions.
Winchester wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it. Winchester tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg. Smith passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Winchester! Smith goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Winchester turns into him and now he's in Smith's guard.
Smith wants to sweep here but Winchester controlling him for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Winchester stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Winchester! Winchester tries to move into full mount but can't pass Smith's legs. Smith gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Smith is pressing down on Winchester's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Winchester doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Smith is tightening it up a little... Winchester has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Winchester reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Winchester taps out! nice BJJ there by Smith!
