Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sebastian Rutten (ranked 2412 p4p, 283 weight class) and Baristen Selmy (ranked 2808 p4p, 319 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Baristen Selmy! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rutten shoots in and bounces Selmy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Selmy is trying to control the position but Rutten postures up. Rutten slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Selmy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rutten's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Rutten blocks the strikes from Selmy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Selmy wants to control but Rutten is keeping busy and won't allow it. Selmy tries to roll over but Rutten keeps him under control. Rutten seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Selmy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Rutten tries to pass to full mount but Selmy defends it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rutten wants to stand up but Selmy has a hold of him and won't allow it. Rutten is working for a kimura but Selmy is defending it quite comfortably.

Rutten got a little sloppy there for a moment and Selmy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?!
