Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimbo Covert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edward Tonu!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Covert lands a slapping body shot.
Tonu has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Covert stalks Tonu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Tonu's face. Tonu staggers backwards, shaken.
Tonu moves to clinch but Covert breaks away
and Covert counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tonu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Covert manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tonu throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Covert counters with a nice uppercut.
Tonu throws a head kick but Covert moves out of range.
Tonu throws a poor cross that misses
and Covert counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tonu throws a sloppy body shot
and Covert counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tonu thows a leg kick but Covert checks it
and Covert connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tonu takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Tonu takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Covert connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Tonu momentarily.
Tonu is rocked!
and Covert counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Tonu! He's just covering up as Covert starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimbo Covert!
