Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hendrik Vermeulen (ranked 695 p4p, 93 weight class) and Angelo Mendez (ranked 936 p4p, 127 weight class). Mendez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Angelito kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Angelo Mendez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hendrik Vermeulen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Angelo Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez throws out a loose jab but Vermeulen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mendez lands with a hook. Vermeulen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mendez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Vermeulen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mendez misses with a hook. Vermeulen ducked under it nicely.
Mendez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Vermeulen lands a jab to Mendez's midsection.
Angelo Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good exchange - Vermeulen coming out on top.
Good standup being displayed there by Mendez as he connects with a hook.
Vermeulen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mendez.
Mendez scores with a jab to the head.
Vermeulen shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mendez eats them both and turns towards Vermeulen to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mendez misses with an uppercut
and Vermeulen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mendez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vermeulen circles away quickly and effectively.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Vermeulen scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mendez drops Vermeulen with a beautiful combination! Vermeulen stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mendez is looking for the KO!
Vermeulen is rocked!
It looks like Hendrik Vermeulen has been cut.
Vermeulen glances at the clock... BAM! Mendez nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Vermeulen crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Vermeulen is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Angelo Mendez!
Angelo Mendez very nearly forgot to thank Urban Fighter amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
