The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

gomez has momentary wrist control but Sleeper slips an elbow through the middle.
Sleeper wants to get up but he can't break gomez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Sleeper postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

and gomez counters with a single leg into guard. Sleeper didn't expect that.

and gomez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sleeper's guard.

gomez has gone for a leg lock! Sleeper slips out almost immediately though and dives into gomez's guard.
gomez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

statson gomez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
gomez wants to take a breather but Sleeper is having none of it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
