Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jae Howell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Ramul! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howell rushes Ramul and presses him up against the cage. Howell gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ramul.
Howell manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Howell has a closed guard, preventing Ramul from standing up. Howell keeping moving, preventing Ramul from controlling successfully. Ramul being controlled here momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Howell's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramul with a flurry of punches that miss. Howell keeping moving, preventing Ramul from controlling successfully. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Howell holds on and takes a little breather. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Howell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ramul avoids it really well and circles away. Ramul tries to clinch up but Howell circles away and keeps his distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ramul misses with a double jab
and Howell counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Ramul is looking to get back to is feet but Howell passes into side control.
You can see the frustration on Ramul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Howell lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ramul down.
Howell tries for a kimura but Ramul is defending well. Howell in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Ramul is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jae Howell!
