Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robert Bruce (ranked 2317 p4p, 268 weight class) and Billy Batts Jr (ranked 2453 p4p, 278 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Bruce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Batts Jr!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batts Jr checks a low kick from Bruce.
Batts Jr shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A big left from Batts Jr misses.
Bruce looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Bruce cracks Batts Jr with a good jab.
We've been told by Bruce's head coaches at JAG Battle Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Batts Jr lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.


It looks like Robert Bruce has been cut.
Bruce misses with a hook.
Bruce ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Bruce jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Bruce walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Batts Jr checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Bruce is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Bruce throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Batts Jr.

Bruce pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Batts Jr appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Bruce throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Batts Jr throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bruce sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bruce went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Bruce dodges the punch combination from Batts Jr.
Batts Jr swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Bruce lands with a right hand.
Bruce throws a hook but Batts Jr avoids it easily.
Batts Jr uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bruce.
Bruce will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Robert Bruce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bruce misses with a hook. Batts Jr ducked under it nicely.
Bruce tries to land a front kick but Batts Jr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Bruce with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Batts Jr to score with a decent uppercut.
Bruce tests Batts Jr's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bruce misses with a series of wild punches.

Batts Jr avoids the head kick by Bruce.
Bruce steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Batts Jr. That one must have hurt.
Bruce is breathing heavily.
Bruce is looking to chop away at Batts Jr's legs.
Bruce checks a leg kick.
Bruce is looking for a counter combo.
Batts Jr scores with a jab to the jaw.
Bruce takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Bruce throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bruce ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Batts Jr moves away.
Bruce swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bruce misses with a straight right.
Bruce looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Batts Jr cracks Bruce with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.

Batts Jr swings away with a leg kick that misses.
It looked like Bruce was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Batts Jr.
A jab from Bruce misses.
Batts Jr is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Bruce keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Batts Jr.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Batts Jr lands a front kick.

Batts Jr drops Bruce with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Bruce looks back up at him and smiles so Batts Jr waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Bruce is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Batts Jr fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Bruce square on the jaw! Damn, Bruce is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Billy Batts Jr!
