PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chase McLaughlin (ranked 15770 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Delmore (ranked 5601 p4p, 0 weight class). McLaughlin comes into the arena with Money and the Power blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chase McLaughlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joey Delmore!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Delmore closes the distance and clinches.
Delmore wants to break free but McLaughlin has control.

Delmore has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics McLaughlin uses from the top position.

Delmore looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Delmore looking for a guillotine here but McLaughlin defends easily.
Delmore is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McLaughlin wants to control from the top but Delmore keeps moving.
McLaughlin throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Delmore is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Delmore holds on and takes a little breather.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Delmore looking for a guillotine here but McLaughlin defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Delmore changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McLaughlin tries to avoid it but Delmore manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McLaughlin to the ground. McLaughlin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

McLaughlin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

McLaughlin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McLaughlin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Delmore looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for McLaughlin!
McLaughlin is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McLaughlin is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Delmore asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on McLaughlin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Delmore fails to land a wild elbow strike.
McLaughlin is trying to control Delmore's posture but Delmore avoids it.
Delmore wants to control but McLaughlin is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Delmore tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
McLaughlin manages to work his way to half guard, despite Delmore's best efforts.

McLaughlin kicks Delmore off and gets back to his feet.
Delmore dives in and grabs McLaughlin's left leg, looking for a takedown. McLaughlin pushes down on Delmore's head and hops out.

Delmore drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Delmore has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McLaughlin shoots in for a double leg but Delmore sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Delmore shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McLaughlin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McLaughlin is positioning himself well to prevent Delmore advancing to mount.

Delmore stands up from half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McLaughlin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Delmore scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chase McLaughlin will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


McLaughlin tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Delmore manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Delmore replies with a solid counter kick to the body but McLaughlin blocks it well.
McLaughlin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Delmore.
McLaughlin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Delmore swivels and escapes.

Delmore darts in and clinches McLaughlin up against the cage.
Delmore jumps guard but McLaughlin stands there with Delmore around his waist. Delmore gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McLaughlin prevents a takedown attempt there.
Chase McLaughlin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joey Delmore.

McLaughlin drags the fight down to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McLaughlin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

McLaughlin is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Delmore frees his head nicely. Oh but McLaughlin has switched to an armbar! Delmore is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
