PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jin Kazama (ranked 3656 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Specht (ranked 6152 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazama comes into the arena with https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MMuAqR_MjS8 blaring out of the sound system. Specht has chosen blablabla as his entrance music. Ken Specht has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jin Kazama's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jin Kazama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Specht!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Specht falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kazama counters with a left and a right that stings Specht.
Specht shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kazama but Kazama pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Specht throws a head kick that misses.
Specht closes the distance and clinches up with Kazama, looking for a takedown. Specht pushes Kazama against the cage but Kazama circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Specht looks winded!

Kazama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Specht's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kazama not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kazama distracts Specht with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Specht is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Specht has momentary wrist control but Kazama slips an elbow through the middle.

Kazama has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kazama really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Specht can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kazama controls the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kazama keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Specht's head.
Kazama seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Specht throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kazama.

and Kazama decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Specht's guard.
Kazama will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kazama is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kazama lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Kazama is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Specht has managed to free his arm - good work.

Specht has hold of Kazama's hands but Kazama slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Specht is looking for a sweep. Kazama is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kazama is taking a breather. Specht says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Specht is trying to stand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Specht is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Specht fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Specht tries for a takedown but Kazama sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jin Kazama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Specht.

Specht is breathing heavily.

Specht tries to keep at a distance but Kazama has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kazama breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ken Specht seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Specht swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Kazama throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Specht was covering up waiting for the punch and Kazama finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kazama slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kazama is working Specht over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kazama's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kazama postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kazama is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kazama pulls guard successfully.

Kazama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Specht doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Specht manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kazama has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Specht off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Specht shoots in but Kazama avoids the takedown attempt easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kazama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Specht can do to turn this around?

Kazama jumps guard and drags Specht to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Kazama has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Specht has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kazama turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kazama decides to stand back up. Kazama steps back and let's Specht get back to his feet.

and Kazama counters by clinching up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Kazama dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kazama shoots in looking for a takedown. Specht tries to sprawl out of it but Kazama keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Specht manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Specht throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kazama's waist but Kazama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Specht off to one side.
Kazama throws a leg kick which misses Specht's front leg but catches the back leg as Specht tries to avoid it.
Specht shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kazama but Kazama pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kazama explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Specht on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Kazama misses with a head kick.
Kazama fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Specht on the side of the head.
Specht blocks a head kick by Kazama.
Specht unleashes a big counter combination but Kazama bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Kazama gets the takedown into side control.

Kazama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Specht is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kazama lands an elbow.

Specht tries to improve position but can't.
Specht is trying to work for a sweep but Kazama has mounted him!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Specht wants to control but Kazama is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kazama lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Jin Kazama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Specht slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Kazama looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Specht with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Specht is trying to stand.
Kazama is nestled in close to Specht, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kazama passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Specht!
Ken Specht has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jin Kazama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jin Kazama showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kazama has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
