PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Dukes (ranked 3629 p4p, 310 weight class) and Jay James (ranked 2893 p4p, 276 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Dukes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay James!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James stuffs the takedown attempt from Dukes. Dukes gets slowly back to his feet.

James gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

James breaks from the clinch.

Dukes clinches up against the cage.
James lands with a right to the head.
James lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Dukes tries to score a body lock takedown but James shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Dukes tries for a takedown but James manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Dukes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James lands a shoulder strike.
James content to slow the pace in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jay James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Dukes rushes James and presses him up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dukes is trying to force a seperation but James has the dominant position.
Dukes prevents a takedown attempt there.
Dukes dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Dukes's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
James swings away with an uppercut that misses.
James is struggling to control the position.
James takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Jay James has been cut.
James just leaning against Dukes, taking a breather.
Dukes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James lands an uppercut.
James will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Dukes up against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from James.
James dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
James is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

James wants a takedown.
James stalling in the clinch.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Jay James.
Dukes shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
James misses with a wild combination.
James keeps the fight on the outside.
A little jabbing left from James on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
No luck for James with that takedown attempt.
A head kick from Dukes lands but James takes it in his stride.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dukes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
James tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
James dives in for a single leg takedown but Dukes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dukes rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
James drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dukes manages to break the clinch.
James blocks a head kick by Dukes.
Dukes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James looks like he wants to counter punch here.

James moves into the clinch.

James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dukes takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Dukes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dukes is breathing heavily.

James drops his shoulder and cracks Dukes with a huge uppercut! Dukes goes down! Can James finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James throwing strikes but missing.
James working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dukes's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
James controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like James might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
James throws an elbow that misses. Dukes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Dukes!


That's five minutes gone in the round.
James is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dukes is controlling him.
Dukes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now.
James is controlling Dukes's posture.
Dukes is stalling in the full guard.
James wants to sweep but no luck.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dukes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A head kick from Dukes lands but James takes it in his stride.
Dukes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.
Dukes throws a quick head kick that skims the top of James's head.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.

James closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dukes sneaks out the side door and pushes James away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James lands a right hand that snaps the head of Dukes backwards.

James breaks the clinch.
James scores with a shot to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James throws a right and a left that Dukes avoids nicely.

Oh, that's a big right hand from James and Dukes goes tumbling to the canvas! James follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.


Dukes is rocked!


It looks like David Dukes has been cut.
James controlling the action here.
Oh Dukes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
James working over Dukes with some ground and pound. Dukes looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Dukes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.

Ground and pound from James.
James perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dukes wants to control but James is keeping busy and won't allow it.
James is nestled in close to Dukes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
James is taking a breather. Dukes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
James scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
James not doing much here.
James moves into full mount! Dukes won't be happy about that!
Dukes seems to have got his legs back now.
James scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Dukes?
James lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
James looking to control and managing it successfully.
We've been informed that James has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
James lands a nice shot to the head.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
James lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
James cracks Dukes with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
James content just to control the position here.
Dukes tries to lock up and control but James gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Dukes is working to get back to half guard.
James looking to finish Dukes with some ground and pound. This is bad for Dukes!
James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay James dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Dukes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by James.
James tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

James is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Dukes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Dukes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James stays in close to Dukes's body and controls the position.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Dukes is retaining full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
James loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

James is continuing to stall.

James throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
James throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Dukes throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
James keeps the fight on the outside.
James lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

James has managed to clinch.
James controlling the action here for a moment.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as James takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

James is looking to control Dukes's arms but Dukes gets an underhook and turns him. Now James has his back to the cage.
James scores with a shot to the side of Dukes's head.
James stops a takedown attempt from Dukes.
James lands with a short punch from the clinch.

James has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Dukes regains guard immediately.

James postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
James in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
James is in close to Dukes's body, working some short punches and elbows.
James not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dukes throws a body punch but James moves out of range.

James darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Dukes manages to escape and get back to his feet!

James closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dukes quickly recovers to half guard.
Dukes avoiding damage under a succession of punches from James.

Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dukes is working an open guard so James takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
David Dukes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James scores with a body shot.
James lands with a nice body punch.
James fakes the body blow, causing Dukes to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Dukes goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
