Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Eikmeyer (ranked 2820 p4p, 260 weight class) and Scott Minerva (ranked 942 p4p, 117 weight class). Minerva has chosen My Pal as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eikmeyer shoots in for a takedown but Minerva shows good takedown defense.
It seemed like Minerva was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Minerva has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Eikmeyer is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Eikmeyer decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Minerva tries to roll over but Eikmeyer keeps him under control.

Eikmeyer looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Minerva has picked Eikmeyer up and slammed him! Eikmeyer can't keep hold of the triangle and Minerva manages to pass to side control!

The referee asks Minerva politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Minerva prefers to stall for the moment though.

Minerva slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Minerva wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Minerva connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Minerva might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Eikmeyer's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Minerva connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Eikmeyer scrambles back to his feet.

Minerva drops Eikmeyer with a huge uppercut! Eikmeyer drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Minerva is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
