Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
47 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anthony Birchack! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Santos.
Santos throws a right hand that Birchack ducks under and follows up with a left that Birchack also avoids with ease. A nice combination there by Santos.
Santos dodges the punch combination from Birchack.
It looked like Santos was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Santos lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Birchack circles away quickly and effectively. Birchack throws a right and a left that Santos avoids nicely. Danga de danga de dang - Santos scores with a four punch combination! Santos avoids the head kick by Birchack.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Birchack avoids a punch combination nicely.
No joy there for Birchack, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Birchack misses with a body kick. Birchack throws a body shot but no joy. Santos looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Birchack swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Santos scores with a jab and follows up with an uppercut that drops Birchack to his knees! He bounces straight back to his feet but is forced to take the mandatory standing 8 count before he's allowed to continue. We're back under way and the fighters meet in the middle of the canvas to re-engage.
Birchack is rocked! No joy there for Santos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Birchack is still on wobbly legs! Can Santos finish him? Santos scores with a jab and follows up with an uppercut that drops Birchack to his knees! He bounces straight back to his feet but is forced to take the mandatory standing 8 count before he's allowed to continue. We're back under way and the fighters meet in the middle of the canvas to re-engage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos catches Birchack napping and connects with a fantastic 3 punch combination that sends Birchack crashing to the mat! He's still conscious but he's all over the place - can he beat the count?!? 4,5,6,7,8...9...10! He didn't make it back to his feet! Santos raises both arms skywards and takes in the roar from the crowd!
