Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joey Shields (ranked 5032 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daiyan Jesus Valdes (ranked 5044 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joey Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daiyan Jesus Valdes!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jesus Valdes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shields manages to avoid it.
Jesus Valdes connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Shields's hands.
Shields really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jesus Valdes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown attempt by Shields or perhaps it was just good defense by Jesus Valdes, which made it look bad.
Jesus Valdes looks for a takedown but Shields sprawls well.

Jesus Valdes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shields has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jesus Valdes has managed to get both his arms back between Shields's legs - danger averted.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jesus Valdes is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Shields still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Shields has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Shields is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jesus Valdes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Shields wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jesus Valdes, who protects the arm well.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shields throwing strikes but Jesus Valdes manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Jesus Valdes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shields's guard.


Shields looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Jesus Valdes throws a strike but Shields rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Shields seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Shields drops back looking for a leg! Jesus Valdes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jesus Valdes manages to kick Shields off! Shields jumps back into Jesus Valdes's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jesus Valdes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Shields haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Shields decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jesus Valdes manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Shields is pressed up against the cage. Jesus Valdes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shields down to the mat. Shields avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
