Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesse Kotkaniemi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aylin Shah! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shah throws a combination that misses and Kotkaniemi counters with a shoot takedown. Shah fights it but they end up in guard. Shah trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Shah wants to sweep but no luck. Kotkaniemi with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Shah is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kotkaniemi is aware though and is defending well. Shah trying to keep a closed guard but Kotkaniemi is proving a slippery customer.
Kotkaniemi stops Shah from standing up. Kotkaniemi trying to control the position from guard on top but Shah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kotkaniemi passes easily into side control. Nice work. Kotkaniemi taking a breather here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shah takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Shah tries to get back to half guard but can't. Shah is trying to control Kotkaniemi's posture but Kotkaniemi avoids it. Kotkaniemi working the head and body with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shah is looking for a sweep. Kotkaniemi working the ground and pound. Shah taking a bit of punishment here - Kotkaniemi scoring with strikes. Kotkaniemi avoids the strikes from the bottom by Shah. You can see the frustration on Shah's face as Kotkaniemi controls the position. Shah bucks up and tries to throw Kotkaniemi off but instead Kotkaniemi has got his back! Shah has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Shah is covering up but some of the strikes from Kotkaniemi are getting through and doing damage.
Kotkaniemi tries to get the hooks in deep but Shah pushed the leg off. Kotkaniemi scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Shah is rocked! Kotkaniemi cracks Shah with a big right hand from the back mount! Shah immediately covers up and the referee dives in to save him under a barrage of more strikes! Kotkaniemi takes this one by TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jesse Kotkaniemi!
