Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Mathis (ranked 5027 p4p, 0 weight class) and Codename Colt (ranked 5917 p4p, 0 weight class). Codename Colt is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rashad Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Codename Colt!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathis wants to clinch
and Colt counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Mathis clinches with his opponent.
Nice body punch from Colt.
Colt struggles to land a body shot inside as Mathis controls his hands.
Colt tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Colt blocking some punches.
Colt changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mathis fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mathis fails with an attempt to clinch.
Colt appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Mathis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Colt pushes Mathis off and gets back to his feet.

Mathis darts in and clinches Colt up against the cage.
Mathis wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Colt is pressed up against the cage. Mathis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Colt down to the mat. Colt avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mathis with a lazy takedown attempt
and Colt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mathis wants to clinch but Colt slips to the side
and Colt counters with a left and a right that stings Mathis.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
No luck for Colt with that takedown attempt.

Mathis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Colt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rashad Mathis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mathis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Colt circles away.
Mathis is breathing heavily.
Mathis shoots and misses

and Colt counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Colt won't allow Mathis to sweep him here.

Colt gets to his feet. Mathis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Colt doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Colt dives in and scores a takedown into Mathis's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mathis is working an open guard so Colt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Colt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mathis circles away.

Colt pushes Mathis up against the cage in a clinch.
Colt misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Mathis tries a body shot but Colt blocks it.
Mathis has Colt pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Colt manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Colt prevents a takedown attempt there.
Colt pushes Mathis back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Colt has picked Mathis up - he's going for a ride! Colt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mathis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Colt swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mathis clinches up with Colt and pushes him back against the cage.
Mathis tries for a takedown. No joy.
Colt goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Mathis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Colt lands a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mathis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Colt avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Colt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Colt stands up and waves to Mathis to follow him.

Colt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mathis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Colt is in Mathis's guard.

Mathis wants to stand and escape but Colt is having none of it.

Colt stands up and waves to Mathis to follow him.
Mathis is looking to clinch.
And Colt responds with a good body kick, but Mathis manages to step out the way in time.
Mathis tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Colt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mathis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Colt has his feet on Mathis's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Mathis wants to clinch but Colt slips to the side
and Colt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rashad Mathis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Colt scores with a takedown into Mathis's guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Colt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Colt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Colt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mathis slaps away a takedown attempt from Colt, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Colt shoots in and bounces Mathis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Codename Colt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Mathis shoots in for a double leg but Colt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And Colt responds with a good body kick, but Mathis manages to step out the way in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mathis or perhaps it was just good defense by Colt, which made it look bad.

Mathis shoots in for a takedown but Colt shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Mathis bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Colt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mathis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Colt circles away.
And Colt tries to counter it with a takedown but Mathis pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Colt closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mathis to the mat! Mathis manages to get full guard.
Colt looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Mathis is trying to keep Colt in close.
Codename Colt is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mathis is looking to stand up but Colt isn't so interested in that idea.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rashad Mathis.
Well Colt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
