PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thing Thing (ranked 1926 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Grandis (ranked 2152 p4p, 0 weight class). Thing kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Thing. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thing Thing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robert Grandis!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grandis throws a body punch but Thing moves out of range.
Grandis throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Robert Grandis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grandis looks to land a left hand but Thing moved out of range nicely.
Grandis rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Thing holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Grandis.
Thing has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Grandis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Thing is working for takedown but Grandis is calmly controlling the position for now.

Thing does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Grandis struggles to land a body shot inside as Thing controls his hands.
Thing wants to take the fight to the mat but Grandis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Grandis.

Thing is looking to take this one to the mat.
Thing changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Grandis fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Thing seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Grandis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thing. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Grandis holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Thing is stalling in the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Grandis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Grandis controls Thing momentarily but Thing frees himself.
Thing in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Thing trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Thing looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Grandis is avoiding damage well.
Thing wants to lay and pray for a moment but Grandis keeps working.
Grandis manages to work his way to half guard, despite Thing's best efforts.
Thing is stalling here. Grandis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Thing seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Grandis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Thing Thing overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You can see the frustration on Thing's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Thing is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Grandis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Robert Grandis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Grandis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Grandis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Thing is in close to Grandis's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Thing Thing has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Grandis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Thing lands a nice short elbow.
Thing not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Robert Grandis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Grandis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Thing's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Thing's back!
Grandis tries to get the hooks in deep but Thing pushed the leg off.
Thing is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Thing has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
