Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Taj Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Wadden! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wadden misses with a kick to the body.
Lewis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wadden is fending him off so far but Lewis persists. Nope, Wadden circles away and we're back to standing. Nice takedown defense from Wadden. No joy for Lewis on that attempt. Lewis is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Wadden gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Wadden pulls guard. Lewis wants to control from the top but Wadden keeps moving. Wadden working for a triangle but Lewis defends it easily.
Lewis passes Wadden's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Wadden is controlling Lewis's position as best he can from this difficult position. Lewis prevents Wadden from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lewis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wadden is refusing to be controlled, as Lewis sits in half guard. Lewis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Wadden is trying to maintain the position but Lewis is very close to passing his half guard. Wadden is looking to improve his position.
Wadden moves into full guard.
Lewis passes into half guard. Lewis works his way into full mount! Lewis pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Wadden holds on to Lewis around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wadden tries to control Lewis's body but Lewis pushes him off. Wadden squirms to his side and now Lewis has his back! Wadden trying to control the position but Lewis manages to sink in the hooks. Lewis is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Wadden has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wadden wants to get back to his feet. Wadden looks gassed! Wadden tries to break free.
Wadden is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Wadden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Lewis working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Wadden is doing well to defend. Lewis seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Wadden is forced to tap and this one is over!
