The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Dijk keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kalama.
Van Dijk throws a leg kick that misses.
Kalama thows a left - swing and a miss!
Van Dijk throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kalama fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Van Dijk to the ground. Kalama is now in Van Dijk's guard.
Van Dijk not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kalama trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kalama drops back looking for a leg! Van Dijk is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Van Dijk manages to kick Kalama off! Kalama jumps back into Van Dijk's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kalama stands and throws Van Dijk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kalama looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Van Dijk tries to improve position but can't.
Kalama tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kalama definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Van Dijk tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Van Dijk is trying to control Kalama's posture but Kalama avoids it.
Kalama thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Van Dijk looks to move to half guard but instead Kalama has passed into mount! Damn!

Van Dijk is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kalama jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Van Dijk manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Kalama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kalama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kalama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Van Dijk is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kalama has an Americana. Van Dijk didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Kalama is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Kalama hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Hoaka Kalama!
After winning the bout, Hoaka Kalama thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
