Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Markus Somerkoski (ranked 1004 p4p, 137 weight class) and Takanori Gomi (ranked 3033 p4p, 341 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Takanori Gomi was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Markus Somerkoski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Takanori Gomi! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gomi leaves Somerkoski with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Gomi shoots for a takedown but Somerkoski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gomi gets caught flat footed, as Somerkoski shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Somerkoski trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gomi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Somerkoski doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Somerkoski manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Somerkoski drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gomi dives on top into guard. Gomi looking to pass the guard. My spies in Temp Spar Gym inform me that Gomi has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Somerkoski is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gomi defends well. We've been hearing good reports from Somerkoski's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Somerkoski is trying to control the position here. Gomi has hold of a guillotine from the top though... oh, that looks naaaaasty, will Somerkoski tap? Yes he will! The fight is all over! Gomi jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd.
