Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aldo Stephenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mustafa Karimi!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stephenson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.


It looks like Aldo Stephenson has been cut.

Karimi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Karimi lands in his opponent's guard.


Stephenson is rocked!
Karimi pushes down on Stephenson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Oh Stephenson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stephenson is trying to stand up here but Karimi is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Karimi in particular looking to stall.
Karimi stops Stephenson from getting back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Karimi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stephenson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Karimi is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Stephenson's shoulder. That is not cool.
Stephenson is pushing Karimi's head away, looking to escape. Karimi manages to hold on to the position though.
Stephenson is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Karimi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Stephenson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Karimi has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Karimi looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Stephenson is avoiding damage well.
You can see the frustration on Stephenson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Karimi postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

What's Stephenson going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Karimi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stephenson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Karimi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Karimi forces his way into half guard.
Stephenson is trying to stand.
Karimi is trying to control. Stephenson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stephenson is positioning himself well to prevent Karimi advancing to mount.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stephenson wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mustafa Karimi dominated that round.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Stephenson tries to sprawl but Karimi drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Stephenson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Karimi is on him like a limpet, forcing Stephenson back against the cage.
Stephenson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Karimi pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Stephenson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Stephenson manages to end up in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stephenson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Stephenson tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Karimi counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Stephenson thinking.

Karimi moves into the clinch.
Stephenson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Karimi walks away with a smile on his face. Stephenson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Karimi closes the distance and pushes Stephenson back into the cage.
Stephenson jumps guard but Karimi turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aldo Stephenson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stephenson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Karimi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stephenson sprawls well initially but Karimi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Stephenson wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Karimi decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Karimi clinches with his opponent.
Karimi keeps control of Stephenson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Karimi has hold of one of Stephenson's legs. Stephenson is fighting the takedown attempt but Karimi gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Karimi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Karimi throws a strike but Stephenson manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Karimi tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!
