Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hans Christian Anderson (ranked 5980 p4p, 492 weight class) and John Michael Benitoy (ranked 4342 p4p, 0 weight class). John Michael Benitoy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hans Christian Anderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Michael Benitoy! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Topper Green and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson closes the distance and pushes Benitoy back into the cage. Anderson working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Anderson wants to get back to striking at distance but Benitoy won't allow it.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Anderson. Anderson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Anderson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Benitoy stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Anderson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Benitoy gets tackled into the cage by Anderson. Anderson maintains the clinch. Anderson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Benitoy has him pressed against the cage. Benitoy has Anderson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Benitoy pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Anderson tumbling to the mat - Benitoy dives into Anderson's guard. Benitoy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Anderson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Benitoy, into his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Benitoy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benitoy looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Benitoy has his hands on Anderson's head, controlling the position. Benitoy looking for a sweep. Not yet Benitoy, not yet. Benitoy keeps trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Benitoy wants to hit a switch here but Anderson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Benitoy there! Anderson manages to capitalize on a mistake by Benitoy to take his back! Benitoy manages to reverse the position and now he's in Anderson's guard. Nice work there by Benitoy.
Benitoy controls from within his opponent's guard. Anderson keeping full guard, as Benitoy tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Benitoy connects with a couple of short punches. Benitoy is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Benitoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Anderson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Benitoy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Benitoy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Benitoy won't allow Anderson to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Benitoy drives through with a takedown into Anderson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Benitoy is working Anderson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
It looks like Hans Christian Anderson has been cut. Benitoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Benitoy sitting in guard here, content to control. Benitoy lands a couple of digs. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Benitoy passes into half guard. Benitoy works his foot free and advances to mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Hans Christian Anderson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Hans Christian Anderson's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Benitoy fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Benitoy throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Anderson was covering up waiting for the punch and Benitoy finishes the takedown easily into guard. Benitoy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Benitoy throwing strikes but missing. Anderson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Benitoy manages to pass to side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Benitoy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benitoy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Anderson wants to get back to his feet.
Benitoy seems to be working for a kimura but Anderson defends the submission attempt. Benitoy controlling the action here. Benitoy lands with a punch from half guard. Benitoy thows a huge punch but Anderson dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Benitoy lands a nice short elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Benitoy is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Anderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benitoy on the ground. Benitoy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Benitoy is working for a kimura but Anderson is defending it quite comfortably.
Benitoy has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Anderson has hold of Benitoy's hands but Benitoy slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Benitoy lands strikes from half guard. Nice strikes from Benitoy there. Benitoy stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Benitoy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Anderson defending well though. Benitoy scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Anderson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Benitoy. Anderson wants to stand and escape but Benitoy is having none of it. Benitoy with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Benitoy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Anderson is rocked! Benitoy loads up on a big left hand. Anderson felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Benitoy looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Anderson can't hide his disappointment, as Benitoy celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Michael Benitoy!
