PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brad Lansar (ranked 71 p4p, 10 weight class) and Heavy Rain (ranked 164 p4p, 20 weight class). Rain comes into a darkened arena with his song building. For Heavy Metal we will die! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Lansar!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Heavy Rain!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lansar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rain tries to avoid it but Lansar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rain to the ground. Rain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rain scores with a jab.
Lansar has a takedown stuffed.
Rain jabs Lansar right on the nose. Lansar blinks but takes it well.

Brad Lansar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rain has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Lansar's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Lansar is looking for a kimura but Rain is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lansar to get the leverage.

Rain scores with a hook to the body. Lansar takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Rain fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lansar.

It looks like Heavy Rain has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rain throws a body punch but Lansar moves out of range.

Rain lands a nice shot to the body.
Rain thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rain fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Heavy Rain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lansar moves away.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Rain.

Rain has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Rain feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Lansars jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Lansar connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Rain steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lansar.
Rain looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Rain takes a swing at Lansar's ribcage but misses.
Rain digs a good body shot into Lansar's ribs.
Lansar throws an overhand right that lands on Rain's shoulder, as Rain tries to avoid the shot.
Heavy Rain seems to be getting the better of the standup.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rain. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Rain throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lansar on the side of the head.

Rain throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lansar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rain is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Lansar takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Rain scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rain lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rain is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lansar lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rain has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rain and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Rain works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Rain pushes Lansar away with a front kick.

Lansar looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Lansar with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rain to score with a decent uppercut.
Rain jabs Lansar right on the nose. Lansar blinks but takes it well.
Lansar closes the distance looking to clinch
and Rain connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Lansar's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rain connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Lansar scrambles back to his feet.

Rain drops Lansar with a beautiful combination! Lansar stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Rain is looking for the KO!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Lansar wants to slow Rain down by chopping away at his legs.
Oh Lansar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lansar lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rain backs up against the cage.

Lansar seems to have got his legs back now.
Lansar moves in looking to clinch but Rain pushes him off.
Rain jabs Lansar right on the nose. Lansar blinks but takes it well.
Rain lands a really nice looking cross but Lansar seems unphased.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rain.

Lansar forces Rain back against the cage and clinches.

Lansar gets control of Rain's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lansar will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Lansar wants to improve his position but instead Rain has moved into half guard.

Lansar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rain's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Rain is pushing down on Lansar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lansar is fighting to maintain full guard but Rain has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lansar is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Lansar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rain's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heavy Rain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rain, as that shot connected.

and Rain counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Lansar is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Rain's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rain moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Rain has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd cheers as Rain lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lansar doesn't seem phased though.

Lansar drops his hands for a split second and Rain immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Lansar face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Rain follows up with a right hand that knocks Lansar into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Heavy Rain!
Heavy Rain is the new heavyweight champion!
In his post fight interview, Heavy Rain started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
