Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roderick Cruickshank (ranked 5409 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hakkamunoi Phouthong (ranked 25049 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roderick Cruickshank ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hakkamunoi Phouthong! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruickshank drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Phouthong looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Cruickshank decides to stand back up. Cruickshank closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Phouthong did well to prevent Cruickshank getting side control. Phouthong pushes Cruickshank off but Cruickshank dives into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Cruickshank working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. This has been an exciting period of action! Cruickshank looks up at the clock and then as Phouthong takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cruickshank smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Cruickshank seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Phouthong for as long as he can get away with. Phouthong is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cruickshank has just dragged him back down to the mat. Phouthong is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Cruickshank passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Phouthong!

Phouthong takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Cruickshank lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Cruickshank tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruickshank looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Cruickshank controlling the position easily from mount. Phouthong is trying to stand. Cruickshank is in the full mount, landing strikes. Cruickshank scoring with strikes but Phouthong is staying in there. Cruickshank tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Cruickshank has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Phouthong's face.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cruickshank is figuring out what he wants to do next. Cruickshank wants to pass to mount but Phouthong is defending the position. Cruickshank looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Cruickshank decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Cruickshank closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Phouthong throws a punch but it's blocked by Cruickshank . Phouthong wants to get back to striking at distance but Cruickshank won't allow it.

He's managed to get a loose triangle. Phouthong doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Phouthong manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cruickshank pulls Phouthong in close to prevent any damage. Cruickshank manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Phouthong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cruickshank is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Phouthong's half guard. Phouthong is looking to get back to is feet but Cruickshank passes into side control.

Hakkamunoi Phouthong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cruickshank scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cruickshank decides to stand back up. A momentary lapse in concentration from Phouthong enables Cruickshank to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Phouthong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Cruickshank decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Cruickshank shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Phouthong is trying to defend but Cruickshank finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. This has been an exciting period of action! Cruickshank sitting and controlling from the half guard. We've been informed that Phouthong has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cruickshank lands a nice short elbow. Cruickshank controlling the pace. Cruickshank passes the guard and advances to mount!
