PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Codename Colt (ranked 6182 p4p, 0 weight class) and Datu Bahktayn (ranked 24980 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Codename Colt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Datu Bahktayn!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Bahktayn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Bahktayn stops Colt from getting back to his feet.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Colt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bahktayn is working away from the top position though.

It looks like Bahktayn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Colt pushes Bahktayn off and gets back to his feet.

Colt closes the distance and clinches up with Bahktayn, looking for a takedown. Colt pushes Bahktayn against the cage but Bahktayn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Colt decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bahktayn's guard.

Bahktayn fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Codename Colt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Datu Bahktayn.

Colt looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Colt swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Colt shoots in and drives through. Bahktayn sprawls well.

Nice takedown defense from Colt. No joy for Bahktayn on that attempt.

Colt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Colt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bahktayn tries to escape but Colt is in control.
Colt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bahktayn keeps working.
A lull in the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Colt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Bahktayn to his feet.
Colt defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bahktayn.
It looked like Colt was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Colt is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bahktayn sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Colt backing away here, and Bahktayn unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bahktayn shoots for a takedown but Colt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bahktayn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Colt tries to avoid it but Bahktayn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Colt to the ground. Colt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Colt is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Codename Colt will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No luck for Colt with that takedown attempt.
Bahktayn appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bahktayn enables Colt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bahktayn manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Colt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Colt moves into the clinch successfully.
Bahktayn digs a right hand underneath Colt's ribcage. Colt let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Bahktayn tries to throw a body punch but Colt avoids it by throwing Bahktayn back against the cage.

Colt misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Bahktayn misses with some punches.

Bahktayn escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bahktayn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colt is looking to get back to is feet but Bahktayn passes into side control.
Bahktayn just content to control the position.

Colt explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Colt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bahktayn avoids it really well and circles away.
Bahktayn replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Colt blocks it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colt fails with a takedown attempt.
Bahktayn appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Codename Colt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Colt closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bahktayn did well to prevent Colt getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Codename Colt will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

A nice side step and Bahktayn releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Bahktayn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Colt's waist but Colt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bahktayn off to one side.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bahktayn dives in and grabs Colt's left leg, looking for a takedown. Colt pushes down on Bahktayn's head and hops out.
Colt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bahktayn is fending him off so far but Colt persists. Nope, Bahktayn circles away and we're back to standing.

Bahktayn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Colt scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Bahktayn manages to mount him!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Datu Bahktayn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Codename Colt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Colt wants to control but Bahktayn is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Datu Bahktayn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Colt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
