Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sorachi Iwamizawa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Kawajiri! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kawajiri looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Iwamizawa wants to control but Kawajiri is keeping busy and won't allow it. Kawajiri looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Iwamizawa trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Kawajiri manages to pass to mount!
Iwamizawa is desperately trying to improve his position but Kawajiri has a good base and remains in mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Iwamizawa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Iwamizawa tries to get back to half guard but can't. Iwamizawa regains half guard. Iwamizawa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kawajiri's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kawajiri's back! Iwamizawa trying to control. Iwamizawa lands punches and elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Iwamizawa is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kawajiri defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Iwamizawa is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kawajiri is defending well though. Iwamizawa let's go of the attempt for now. Iwamizawa is trying to control but Kawajiri is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Kawajiri bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Iwamizawa trying to keep a closed guard but Kawajiri is proving a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawajiri won't allow Iwamizawa to sweep him here. Iwamizawa trying to control the position.
Iwamizawa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kawajiri is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kawajiri wanted to stand there but Iwamizawa had control of the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Iwamizawa decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Iwamizawa is breathing heavily. Kawajiri trying to control but Iwamizawa postures up.
Iwamizawa is looking for a kimura but Kawajiri is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Iwamizawa to get the leverage. Iwamizawa passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Kawajiri! Iwamizawa swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kawajiri is now in Iwamizawa's guard. A big mistake from Iwamizawa there, giving up the dominant position! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sorachi Iwamizawa dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Kawajiri closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Iwamizawa to the mat! Iwamizawa manages to get full guard. Kawajiri advances to half guard. Iwamizawa actively working from the bottom here. Iwamizawa is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Kawajiri pulls his head out easily. Kawajiri trying to control from half guard but Iwamizawa is working away. Iwamizawa trying to hold on to Kawajiri's head to control him but Kawajiri postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Iwamizawa looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kawajiri tries to pass to full mount but Iwamizawa defends it. Iwamizawa trying to control here.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Iwamizawa shoots and misses and Kawajiri counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kawajiri. Kawajiri tries to free his leg and advance position but Iwamizawa is retaining full guard. Shinya Kawajiri has got the better of the ground game so far. Kawajiri is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Iwamizawa has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kawajiri is looking to defend but Iwamizawa has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kawajiri! Iwamizawa pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kawajiri taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sorachi Iwamizawa!
