PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hassan The Hatchet (ranked 3910 p4p, 383 weight class) and Phil Domphy (ranked 5156 p4p, 435 weight class). The Hatchet comes to the cage accompanied by Hed PE Renegade. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hassan The Hatchet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Domphy!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Hatchet misses with a takedown attempt - Domphy sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Domphy does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Domphy is looking to score with low kicks.
Domphy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The Hatchet went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Domphy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've been told by The Hatchet's head coaches at Cozad MMA St Petersburg that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The Hatchet stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Domphy.
Horrible takedown attempt by The Hatchet or perhaps it was just good defense by Domphy, which made it look bad.
No luck with that takedown attempt from The Hatchet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hassan The Hatchet. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Domphy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Domphy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with The Hatchet. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Domphy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Hatchet swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Domphy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks The Hatchet with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Domphy in particular looking to stall.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Domphy connects with a nice short shot to The Hatchet's temple.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Domphy winds up and cracks The Hatchet with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Domphy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
