PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Travis Carter (ranked 5063 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Kahale (ranked 5057 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Travis Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Kahale!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kahale, pushing him back against the cage.
Kahale is pressed up against the cage. Carter has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kahale down to the mat. Kahale avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Carter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kahale swivels and escapes.

Kahale forces Carter back against the cage and clinches.
The referee is keeping an eye on Carter - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Kahale tries for a takedown but Carter manages to get underhooks.

Kahale tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carter smiles and moves away.
Kahale throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kahale is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter shoots in looking for a takedown. Kahale tries to sprawl out of it but Carter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kahale manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travis Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carter shoots in and gets a takedown into Kahale's guard.

Carter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kahale moves in looking to clinch but Carter pushes him off.

Carter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kahale sprawls well. Kahale wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carter gets slowly back to his feet.

Kahale had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carter defends it easily.

Carter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Travis Carter will probably get the nod.

Kahale shoots in looking for a takedown. Carter tries to sprawl out of it but Kahale keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kahale on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Carter. Carter obviously looking to wear him down.
Kahale shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carter as he jumps to the side.
No luck for Kahale with that takedown attempt.
Travis Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Kahale.

Carter darts in and clinches Kahale up against the cage.

Kahale jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carter walks away with a smile on his face. Kahale gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Carter keeps control of Kahale as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kahale tries to pull guard but Carter won't allow it.
Carter has Kahale pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kahale manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Carter gets control of Kahale's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carter will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kahale accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Carter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kahale's guard.
