PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Moore (ranked 1102 p4p, 143 weight class) and Melek Taus (ranked 856 p4p, 113 weight class). Moore comes to the cage accompanied by Sad Man's Tongue by Volbeat. Taus has chosen A Cry For Vengeance as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Moore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Melek Taus!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moore walks into a stiff left hand from Taus.
Moore has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 3Band MMA ($800/week) in the buildup to the fight.
Taus swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Taus misses with a body kick.
Moore tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Taus swivels and escapes.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Moore.
Horrible takedown attempt by Moore or perhaps it was just good defense by Taus, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Moore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Moore shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.


It looks like Carl Moore has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moore connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Taus's hands.
Nice sprawl there from Taus as Moore shoots in.

Taus throws a shot from downtown. Moore moves away and avoids it.

and Taus counters with a straight right hand.
Moore throws out a loose jab but Taus uses good head movement to avoid it.

Moore closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Moore lands in his opponent's guard.

Taus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Moore's guard.

Taus passes Moore's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Taus trying to control the pace.
Moore is trying to maintain the position but Taus is very close to passing his half guard.

Taus frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Taus looking to control and managing it successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Moore really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Taus looking to control but Moore is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Moore tries to reverse the position but Taus maintains control.
Taus content just to control the position here.
Moore sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Taus is thwarting Moore's attempts to control the position.

Moore is trying to get back to full guard.
Taus trying to pass the guard but Moore defending well.
Taus tries to stand and escape but Moore is controlling the position.
Moore wants to get back to full guard.
Moore is pressing down on Taus's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moore keeping moving, preventing Taus from controlling successfully.
Taus slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Taus is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Moore.
Moore appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A looping hook to the body misses from Taus. Moore does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nice shot lands for Moore.
Taus scores with a kick to the body.
Moore's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Taus connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Moore scrambles back to his feet.
Taus feints and then cracks Moore's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Moore down.

and Moore counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Moore throws a big right hand that misses.

Moore in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Moore postures up.
Moore loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Taus controls Moore momentarily but Moore frees himself.

Taus has Moore pulled in close to control his posture.
Moore tries to free his leg and advance position but Taus is retaining full guard.

Moore postures up and lands a big shot to Taus's brow.

Taus controls Moore momentarily but Moore frees himself.

Moore drops back, looking for a kneebar! Taus looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Taus looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Taus!

Moore manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Taus prevents Moore from improving his position.
Still in half guard, Taus seems content to control.
Moore wants to get back to full guard.
Moore is working hard here to advance position.
Taus uses his free foot to push down on Moore's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Moore.
Taus looking to control and managing it successfully.
Moore regains half guard.
Moore works his way to full guard. Good work.
Taus is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Moore wants to sweep here but Taus controlling him for the moment.
Taus is stalling in the full guard.
Moore wants to hit a switch here but Taus passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Moore there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Moore is trying to reverse the position but instead Taus has taken his back - oops!

Melek Taus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Moore misses with a takedown attempt - Taus sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A nice side step and Taus releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Moore throws out a powerful jab.
Moore throws a hook but Taus avoids it easily.
Taus feints a counter leg kick.
Taus connects with a right hand. Moore shakes it off.
Taus slips a straight right by Moore.
A little jabbing left from Taus on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Moore tries for a takedown but Taus circles away easily
and Taus counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Taus counters with a crisp right hand that drops Moore! Taus lets Moore back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Moore is rocked!
Taus throws a quick inside leg kick.
Oh Moore is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Taus is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Moore flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Moore is out cold! Taus holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Melek Taus!
Melek Taus seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
The defeated Carl Moore had this to say: 'No one likes seeing their opponent's hand raised, but that just means that they were the better man today. My team at 3Band MMA and I will break down this match and make the proper changes for my next camp.'.
