Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Solomon Holman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dustin Poirier!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poirier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Poirier throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Poirier fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Poirier takes the fight into the clinch.
Holman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Poirier to keep the fight standing.
Holman comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Poirier ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Poirier no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Poirier has control of Holman's left arm, preventing Holman from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Poirier can do anything to dispel that myth.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Poirier is on top in guard.

Let's hope that Poirier has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Poirier is trying to get an arm triangle but Holman is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poirier has knee on belly momentarily but Holman bucks him off and regains half guard.

Holman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Poirier misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Holman tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Poirier is looking to take a break and control but Holman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Poirier forces Holman back against the cage and clinches.
Holman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Holman tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Poirier just stands there and leans against the cage.

Poirier is taking a breather. Holman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Poirier stands up and beckons Holman to join him on the feet.

Poirier bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Poirier decides to stand back up. Poirier steps back and let's Holman get back to his feet.

Poirier drives through and clinches with Holman against the cage.

Holman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Poirier gets a double leg takedown into Holman's guard.

Holman has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Poirier is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Holman drags the fight down to the ground.

Poirier is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Poirier has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Poirier wanted to stand there but Holman had control of the position.
Holman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Holman pulls Poirier in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dustin Poirier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Holman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Poirier as he jumps to the side.

Poirier follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Holman is working an open guard so Poirier takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Poirier cracks Holman with a left hook right on the temple and Holman goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Poirier lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Holman is OK!
